Mission Statement

An understanding of economics is essential in our current society. While it may be a painfully dull subject for some, many aspects of our daily lives our affected by the state and direction of our economy; it would be worth grasping basic principles. Unfortunately, our education system is not effective at teaching our citizens this subject. We are instead left the concepts thrown at us, twist and torn, and molded to fit politician's campaign platforms. It wasn't until I spent majority of my undergraduate business courses on economic principles that I realized: CNN and FoxNews have no idea what they are talking about sometimes!

Don't get me wrong. We can obtain good information form the news. But, many opinion pieces are treated as truths. It is important for everyone to know how to read between the lines. To do this, you must have some basic understanding of economic philosophies. I use the term philosophy because economics is not a science. It more along the lines of understanding human nature. There are no absolutes. There are no truths. But, there are basic premises that can be relied on majority of the time. It is much like the weather. Experts don't always predict it right, but even still it is pretty good to pay attention because it might just save you from taking rainy trip to the beach or taking a nap while a tornado destroys your home. Likewise, we may not be able to predict what gas prices will be next week but we can decide if we should hold off on buying that new 9G iPad with front-facing camera, built-in stove, and attachable time machine.

The intended purpose of this blog is to discuss these important economic principles in plain English. Because economics is actually very simple and can be very interesting. Its just never taught that way. And it affects almost every aspect of our daily lives, so it is more than worth knowing. My hope is that we can teach basic principles in an interesting fashion, while discussing currently relevant topics and delivering both sides of the story. If it is a principle that is widely debated, we will have several articles on the topic from different perspectives. At the same time, involvement from the readers will play a major role in how these topics are addressed.

This is the mission statement. We are not off the ground yet, but hope to be soon. Check back soon for more updates.
